Interbrew is financing its growth by listing its shares in Belgium. The process is part of a strategy of increasing profitability by building leading positions through organic growth and acquisitions. Its takeover of Whitbread and Bass in the UK remains under a cloud ahead of the Competition Commission's report on the deal, which goes to secretary of state for trade and industry Steven Byers on December 6. Impositions the Competition Commission could put forward include the sale of either the Bass or Whitbread operations, the sale of brands including Stella Artois, or the termination of supply agreements to the Bass or Whitbread estates. {{NEWS }}
