The John Lusty Group has struggled to reverse last year's slump, its interim results revealed this week. Joint group md Derek Wilson said end of year figures would show improvement on last year's, when operating profts were halved. "The trading climate is better. Last year there was a knee jerk reaction to the arrival of Wal-Wart; everyone wanted to cut margins. Now they're differentiating and there are more opportunities." Turnover for the six months ending September 30, 2000 was £25.68m ­ a like for like increase of 12% on the previous year. The importer/distributor also made £6.5m in commission as sales agents.
