Internet shopping sales rose 54% to £46.6bn last year, according to a Capgemini survey.

Online shopping now accounts for 15p of every £1 spent in UK retail, the survey found, with a record £15.2bn spent online between October and December.

“While we are yet to see high streets sales decline there can be no doubt online is growing its share at the expense of bricks and mortar retailers and we believe that this trend will continue,” said Anthoula Madden, vice president at Capgemini UK's consumer products and retail team.
