A combination of the Jubilee celebrations and the World Cup is having a major impact in the drinks market. Latest ACNielsen figures for the sector for the week before the long Jubilee weekend show all major categories made significant volume gains. Data comparing volume figures for the week ending June 1 to the same week last year showed total beer up 37%, lager ahead 39%, spirits up 26% and premium packaged spirits plus 70%. Guinness UDV business unit director Matthew Mycock said: "Brand promotions by the likes of Guinness and Smirnoff Ice are driving consumption.
