The British Retail Consortium and major retailers met with Chancellor Gordon Brown, education and employment secretary David Blunkett and his minister Tessa Jowell on Wednesday to launch a jobs creation scheme. Ambition Retail will lead to job opportunities for 50,000 unemployed people over three years. Brown said: "This is a new initiative for retail, a sector employing nearly three million people, responsible for 20 per cent of employment growth in the last four years." {{NEWS }}
