June was a poor month in terms of retail sales value for magazines, according to Seymour's Monthly Monitor. Sales stood at £122m, the lowest figure since £121m recorded in January 2000, with the exception of £120m for December 2000. The three-month moving average is also down at £133m  the lowest figure bar once since July 2000. The 12-month moving average has risen 2.6%, which Seymour says shows that "although the market is struggling, recent trends have been more encouraging". Sectors continuing to decline include computing, men's fashion/interest, news & current affairs. The report shows that in April-June 2001, independents suffered the biggest drop in year on year market shares, down 1.3%, while Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, Morrisons and Somerfield all show year on year growth. {{CTN }}
