The Food Standards Agency has called for suggestions on how food labelling can be improved.
The consultation is in response to a six-year European Commission review aimed at streamlining label legislation, with the first discussion document due to be produced at the end of the year. The FSA already plans to request legislation is amended to ensure improved label clarity, a review of exemptions from listing certain additives, full ingredient listing on alcoholic drinks and tougher rules on origin labels.
The FSA will pass on responses and report on the consultation next month.
