The British Retail Consortium has welcomed a delay in the European Parliament’s plans to harmonise health claims on food packaging.
The proposals, first mooted last year, would have banned the “healthy option” description. But the EU’s environment committee voted this week to shelve the legislation for up to a year - until a new parliament is in place. BRC food policy director Richard Ali said: “We can only hope that the extra time will be used to rethink, redraft and produce proposals that deliver something useful.”
