A row is brewing over the future of London's wholesale markets. The Covent Garden Markets Tenants' Association and Market Authority have hit out at the Corporation of London's stance.
The Corporation, in response to the Nicholas Saphir review, recommended there be only one composite market for London at Spitalfields, with New Covent Garden and Western International remaining as specialist wholesale and catering markets.
The Covent Garden bodies said in a joint statement: "These recommendations are at direct variance with the Saphir report and we cannot accept them." The Saphir report calls for Covent Garden to become the Larder of London'.
