Young grocery managers view the food and drink industry as a lucrative sector in which to work, but are obliged to put in long hours to get their rewards.
That is the finding of The Grocer’s job satisfaction survey of members of Leading Edge, IGD’s networking forum for young managers.
A massive 68% of those polled said that they worked more than 41 hours per week.
Meanwhile, 14% of young managers claimed to have a working week of more than 50-hours.Those polled for the survey represent the full extent of the industry, from primary producers and suppliers to both large and small retailers.
A fortunate 8% claimed to be earning more than £50,000.
The vast majority are happy to remain in the grocery sector with 42% not looking to change jobs and a further 45% looking for a new role within the food and drink sector.
Leading Edge will be running its annual conventions next month, in Leeds on September 6 and London on September 27.
