Exporters should capitalise on the big demand for British food in Spain and Portugal, says export marketing agency Food from Britain.

FFB research into ex-pat and tourist opinion in the two countries indicates a significant demand for breakfast products such as cereals and tea, and ambient goods like biscuits and canned foods.

Spain has an 800,000 British ex-pat community and 28% told FFB that they bought British products every day. In Portugal 24% of the British ex-pats surveyed buy British products daily.

The research indicated that the tourist trade would also provide a big opportunity for exporters with 14.6 million British holidaymakers going to Spain, and 2 million to Portugal each year.
