RVP brand Oriental Express is steaming towards the healthy eating sector with the launch of two low-fat frozen Chinese dishes. It is hoped the newcomers to the Oriental range, which now boasts the distinction of being a £39.2m brand [TN Sofres], will grow the label even further and help RVP achieve its goal of ousting rival Heinz from second place in the frozen ready meals market. Birds Eye is market leader. Oriental Express Chinese Prawn and Chinese Chicken, both in trays, come in 320g servings and take seven minutes to cook (rsp: £1.19). Hitting shelves from the middle of next month, the newcomers will be supported by ads in women's magazines and a 100,000 mail coupon drop in the north of England and the Midlands. A TV campaign costing up to £5m is planned for the whole brand early next year. {{P&P }}
