Marks & Spencer has appointed a new head of its overseas business – the retailer’s second senior appointment this month.

Jan Heere joins M&S as director of international and will head up the high street giant’s expansion overseas.

He switches from Spanish fashion retailer Inditex, where he was general manager for Russia. During his time at Inditex, Heere grew its Russian presence from around 20 stores to more than 170.

Earlier this month M&S announced the capture of chief Laura Wade-Gery to head up its online development.

The appointments come after chief executive Marc Bolland said growth online and overseas would be key to the retailer’s development. “Jan’s impressive international experience fits well with the international growth plans we outlined in November,” Bolland said.

Heere added: “International retail is a real opportunity for M&S. I am very pleased to be joining at such an exciting time and look forward to getting started.”
