Marks & Spencer is to open a store in Paris later this year, according to press reports.

The launch of the 15,000 sq ft store on the Champs-Elysees will mark the retailer’s return to the Continent a decade after closing its European outlets.

According to French newspaper La Tribune, M&S will take over a store currently held by clothing chain Esprit – and will retain the existing staff. It is thought the store will sell only clothing.

M&S yesterday would not comment on what it called “rumour and speculation” over new stores.
