Marks & Spencer is to offer shoppers two million items, priced at just 1p each, for three days starting from next Wednesday, in celebration of its 'Penny Bazaar' heritage.

300 main stores will offer 20 different product lines all priced at 1p, according to a report in The Daily Mail. Jewellery sets, beach balls, knickers, ties and socks will all feature in the sale.

"M&S has now been at the heart of Britain for 125 years and we believe this is something worth celebrating," said executive chairman, Sir Stuart Rose.

Marks & Spencer, originally called Marks' Penny Bazaar, was founded by Michael Marks, a Russian born Polish refugee, in 1884. It comprised a stall at Kirkgate market in Leeds and sold items such as nails, wooden spoons and soap, for 1p each.
