Trade was "way beyond expectations" at M&S's second Simply Food c-store which opened in Twickenham this week. The store "was busier than you would have thought it was physically possible to be" said project leader Matthew Knowles. He said customer levels at the new store were "off the scale" right up till closing time at 10pm. The Twickenham trial site is geared towards a family top up shop with large ready meal portions and strong representation of unprepared foods. The Surbiton c-store which opened the week before majors on "grab and go" shopping and meeting the needs of passing commuters. The Surbiton pilot store has also reported buoyant figures according to Knowles. - See Retail Spotlight p40. {{NEWS }}
