Supplier of own-label household goods to supermarkets, McBride, has posted a 46% jump in full-year pre-tax profit boosted by improved margins and sales growth in the UK and Europe.

McBride which supplies every retailer in Europe, was voted as The Grocer magazine’s Best Own Label Supplier to the UK grocery trade - said for the year to June 30 pre-tax profit rose to £26.2m, on a 4.3% increase in turnover to £505m.

The company said European sales make up 55% of group turnover. Although UK sales were flat at £228.5m, tight cost controls saw profit climb 16%.

McBride has a 23.7% share of UK own label business and said that it had seen a 12.3% growth from its core liquid laundry sachet business.

Looking ahead the company said it would continue to develop its Surcare household and personal care range where sales have grown by 24% through the convenience and independent sectors.
