Newspaper and magazine wholesaler Menzies Distrubition has acquired Media On The Move in a deal worth £1.2m.

The target is a media management company specialising in marketing and distribution services to airports, airlines and the wider travel industry.

Menzies said the acquisition would accelerate its expansion of print media to travelling consumers, with the business set to be integrated into its Reed Aviation and Menzies Travel Media unit.

Meanwhile, rival wholesaler Smiths News has reassured shareholders that the demise of the News of the World is unlikely to affect its business.

“Despite this unprecedented step by the board of News International, Smiths News expects that a combination of significant buyer substitution and the group’s flexible cost base will result in minimal financial impact,” it said in a statement.
