The Stores of Excellence, as they have been dubbed, will be used to maintain and develop company standards, policies and
procedures. They will be test sites for new retail initiatives and will also be used as centres of training for staff in matters such as security. The shops in the chain, ranked 18 in The Grocer Top 50, are scattered across north east England, Cumbria, Humberside and Lincolnshire and have been selected partly because of their geographical spread and partly due to strong performance and management.
Human resource manager Dawn Norton said: “Through the 13 stores all of our other stores will have a point of contact where they can access support and advice with regard to an array of retailer related subjects.”
Group MD Nigel Mills said: “Investment in our people is vital to maintaining a strong brand and high level of customer service. The Stores of Excellence programme not only offers opportunities for career development, but also provides a high quality support network.”
