Mills Group has restructured its board following the acquisition of CTN chain and fellow member of The Grocer Top 50 Morgam News last month.

The deal boosted store numbers from 57 to 84 and allowed the retailer to expand into the west Midlands and south Wales (The Grocer, September 20, p5).

As a result, John Porrett has been promoted from director of media sales and marketing to commercial director handling day-to-day operations.

He has been with Mills Group for 11 years and has developed several initiatives including, a
specialist magazine website. He joined the company in 1992 as a stocktaker and has held area manager and category manager posts.

Dave Pickford has stepped up to the role of marketing director. He has worked for the company for four years and was previously category manager for beers, wines and spirits. In that role, he helped lift sales in the category from £3.5m to £5m. The company estimates that it will rise to £7m in 2004.

Pickford joined Mills Group after working for Vaux Breweries for 26 years, becoming national account manager for the wholesale sector.

Porrett said: “This new role will allow me greater involvement in the direction Mills Group takes as a national operator.”

Group MD Nigel Mills added: “Both John and Dave were the natural choices for these jobs.”
