More than 48,000 customers have signed up to Shop Scan Save, the mobile-based loyalty scheme for c-stores, since its launch last September.

The scheme, where consumers receive barcode SMS vouchers on their mobiles that they can redeem at a PayPoint terminal, had been a "great success" said Stefan Magnusson, MD of The Light Agency, the company behind the scheme.

Costcutter, Nisa-Today's and Mills Group had backed the scheme and helped increase voucher redemption rates while TV ads on MTV had pulled in 1,000 new members a day and links to money-saving websites had attracted thousands of members, he added.
