Managing director Nigel Mills said the group had just completed rolling out the system to its existing 57 stores when it acquired Morgam, and would now introduce it to the new additions by next April, at an extra cost of £300,000.
The process uses Windows-based software designed by Anker which is similar to the package used by T&S Stores. Mills Group also plans to improve its specialist magazine website, uniquemagazines.co.uk, enabling readers to buy publications online: “We have taken £250,000 worth of orders through the site in the last year and we hope to boost that figure to £1m in 2004.”
The service will be going live in January.
Mills Group aims to buy five or six new stores in the next 15 months, and is likely to dispose of one or two in that time.
