Morrisons is to sponsor the Special Olympics 2013 National Games in Bath this summer.
The sponsorship will see the retailer provide and distribute 9,000 packed lunches for the athletes, coaches and volunteers during the three days of competition, which kicks off on 28 August.
The Special Olympics athletes, all with intellectual disabilities, will be competing in 12 sporting disciplines. The event is a key staging post for those athletes looking to represent Special GB at the 2014 European Summer Games in Antwerp and the 2015 World Summer Games in Los Angeles.
“We are proud to support such an important event in the Olympic calendar,” said Morrisons corporate services director Martyn Jones. “We’ll deliver Morrisons products, from our NuMe healthy eating range, and fresh fruit from our own supply chain, to give the Special Olympics athletes the energy they need to compete.”
