Australian firm Foodland is back in the running for New Zealand supermarket chain Woolworths after the government intervened. The move is the latest twist in the long running battle over Woolworths after top NZ grocer Foodstuffs tried to prevent Foodland from bidding by raising legal challenges. Last week, the court of appeal ruled the bid should be reviewed under the strict new Commerce Act. This quashed Foodland's hopes and placed a regulatory question mark over A$2bn worth of other pending acquisitions. But NZ commerce minister Paul Swain has revised the law so applications made before enactment of the new legislation are considered under older, less stringent rules. {{NEWS }}
