New varieties of asparagus, including purple types, are being tested under a new marketing rights arrangement by the UK's largest producer, Suffolk-based Tuddenham Hall Estate. It has linked with Hargreaves Plants to form Asparagus International, which has already secured rights in 40 countries on asparagus developed by the breeding programme at Rutgers University, New Jersey.
