CTN chain Rippleglen has acquired Northcliffe Retail, the CTN arm of Daily Mail and General Trust, in a deal believed to be worth £8.2m.
The purchase of the 61-strong Northcliffe estate will bring the number of Rippleglen stores to 226.
The company currently runs 165 stores under four fascias: Arden News, Supernews, Candies and Supercigs. Northcliffe's stores are mainly located in the East Midlands and north east of England. They trade under the Mercury News Shops, Post News Shops and Telegraph News Shops fascias.
"The acquisition of these CTNs will help us to improve our product offering and will enhance the news side of our business, helping to reduce dependency on tobacco," said Rippleglen MD Mike Colley.
Earlier this year Rippleglen, the UK's second-biggest CTN business, said it was looking to develop new stores at train and bus stations to win business from the rising numbers of commuters.
