US meat processor Smithfield Foods has bought the Norwich Food Company and Ridpath Pek and merged them to form Smithfield Foods in the UK.
The chief executive of the new company, John Alton Jones, said that the merger represented a “near-perfect combination of two companies with their complementary product ranges”.
Ridpath Pek is a supplier of chopped pork and Polish deli meats. The Norwich Food Company has built its business on importing chicken, turkey and game into the UK.
“The retail brand and sales strength of Ridpath Pek and the fresh meat expertise and customer service skills of the Norwich Food Company will create a winning combination,” said Alton Jones.
Smithfield Foods is to be based at a new head office located in Norwich.
