Sir; I am astonished that an independent consultant for food and agriculture such as Clive Dibben demonstrates such a clear ignorance of production standards, labelling and the dairy industry (‘Don’t stick quality labels on junk meat’. Readers’ Letters, January 21).
Is Mr Dibben deliberately seeking to undermine consumer confidence in spite of the rigorous measures the livestock and meat industries have put in place to protect consumers and almost eradicate BSE?
He should really be aware that the EU’s Food and Veterinary Office, the European Food Safety Authority and the Food Standards Agency have all given OTM beef a clean bill of health as a result of the change to the UK’s BSE risk status.
We can pick hairs about the details but what we cannot ignore is the deliberate use of emotive language to make offensive
