Brits spend £136 per household on delivery charges each year.

Delivery charges for online shopping add up to £3.52bn a year, according to a OnePoll study for consultancy Trimble.

Parking charges and the cost of petrol were cited as a major factor alongside the convenience of shopping from home.

Almost two-thirds of those polled said they bought more online than five years ago, while 89% ruled out spending less online over the next five years.

“Effective delivery is critical to a positive service experience, but the study shows that many companies are not meeting their customer’s needs,” said Trimble’s Mark Forrest.

“The key is keeping commitments; making ones that the company can keep and then ensuring the customer is informed along the way.”
