Food Weighouse, the loose food retailer with 70 stores, has opened a virtual store at The web site offers shoppers nationwide the complete range of stock and brands, from flour to vitamin pills, in their choice of weight. A spokeswoman said: "We started with vitamin pills and other health supplements online about two years ago, and there has been a lot of interest in the extended service even at this early stage." The new e-tail arm is operated from the same warehouse in north Yorkshire which services the company's stores currently spread across Scotland and the Midlands. Online orders are wrapped up and dispatched to customers, with a charge for postage, which is expected to become a standard delivery charge as the system develops. Chief executive Chris Lewis said: "The internet has become an important trading instrument for the weekly shop and we want to be at the forefront of this electronic revolution." Food Weighouse, which has grown rapidly since its launch in 1988, also has ambitious plans for cross country coverage through franchises. {{NEWS }}
