Restaurants and foodservice outlets could soon begin displaying country of origin information for meat dishes on their menus.
A consultation on the proposed voluntary code of practice was launched by the MLC last week at the British Meat Foodservice Summit.
MLC chairman Peter Barr said: "I believe the industry has everything to gain and nothing to lose from being clear and open with its customers about where their meat comes from."
He invited foodservice operators to join the Commission in developing and introducing a code of practice in this area.
