The foodservice industry may overtake retailers in implementing revolutionary supply chain technology, according to speakers at a conference last The full benefits of the electronic barcoding and cataloguing technology  supplied by Udex and Ecentre  were highlighted at the Optimum Foodservice Supply Chain Initiative conference. One development not yet used by retailers was Ecentre's food pallet barcoding system. Food and Drink Federation director of economics Bob Price said: "The foodservice sector could pip retailers to the post here, although Sainsbury, Tesco and Iceland are in the process of getting it, and suppliers such as Kellogg's and Nestlé are close to signing a contract." OFSCI members plan to complete phase one of the roll-out of the system by April 30. {{NEWS }}
