Russian supermarket chain Paterson has opened its eighth supermarket in St Petersburg, according to media reports.

The retailer has previously concentrated mainly on Moscow, with 19 stores in the Moscow region and a total of 34 stores in Russia.

The new St Petersburg store was opened at a cost of $800,000 and covers 780 sq m.

Paterson plans to open another two stores in the city before the end of the year, and it intends to have more than 60 stores in Russia by the end of 2005.
