Forecourt retailers Murco and Total UK look set to fall into the hands of private equity.

TPG, Bain Capital and Blackstone are all understood to be making bids for Total UK, which was put up for sale in September this year, and Murco, which is being sold by Murphy Oil. Bain Capital is the owner of foodservice giant Brakes, while Blackstone owns United Biscuits.

Independent forecourt operator MRH and Greenergy, which Tesco has a a minority stake in, are also understood to be in the running.
