The humble pea is getting a new look as one of the first two products in a new Tendafresh range from frozen vegetable specialist Christian Salvesen Foods. Alongside stablemate sweetcorn, the peas are packaged in 200g tubs (rsp £1.39). Other options are planned for next year. A patented freezing technique, which took two years to develop, aims to keep them tasting "as if they had been picked just hours before". Sales and marketing director Tim Graham said: "British peas' relatively short season makes them a rare treat. "Frozen alternatives deliver a good flavour but they don't retain the texture of fresh peas." Targeting health-conscious young professional who are short on time, the tubs, which are microwaveable, will go into the fresh produce chiller. "Consumers expect to be able to find any vegetable all year round and are willing to pay a premium for quality," said Graham. {{P&P }}
