Sir; The news that c-store operators have gone back to basics and therefore gained ground on the mighty multiples, made encouraging reading in your last issue. In truth, it's a much maligned sector which, after years of hard work and innovation, deserves some recognition. But I was saddened this week to see and hear the media (not The Grocer) refer to our successful band of c-store entrepreneurs as "corner shops." This greatly outdated phrase smacks of smutty emporiums with a tabby cat sat in the window. Nothing like the reality that we are hailing today. When will the media learn about grocery? You, sir, regularly bash the media for their penchant not to let the facts get in the way of a good story. Surely you should have a go at them on this occasion? D Humphreys Portsmouth {{LETTERS }}
