Specialist grocer Planet Organic is hoping to secure funding for expansion by the end of the year as it looks to improve its foothold within London ahead of next year's arrival of Whole Foods Market.

Founder of the three-store organic retailer Renée Elliott told The Grocer that she is negotiating with investors and expected to secure funding to back her company's expansion plans around September time.

Elliott said; "We are in the process of fundraising at the moment to get capital to open more stores. June and July are generally slow, but we expect to have it wrapped soon after that."

The funding would come after two years of attempts to expand the business. However, this would now hopefully lead to about four stores within the M25 area in the near future, she added.
