The olive oil comes in two varieties - extra virgin and an extra virgin olive oil extracted by the Sinolea method, which produces an oil with higher levels of antioxidants and a lower acidity. It also has a distinctive taste.
Both oils are produced in Jordan by Jomofood and are being imported and distributed in the UK by a newly-formed company, Terra Rossa Jordan.
Hanan Samara, director of Terra Rossa, said she set out to raise awareness of Jordanian olive oil. “They have been producing olive oil in Jordan for 6,000 years - much longer than they have been making it in either Italy or Spain.”
The oils are available in 250ml and 500ml bottles as well as in a collection of gifting formats. The 250ml standard extra virgin olive oil will retail at £4.28 and the 500ml at £7.20. The Sinolea will retail at a higher price of £5.06 and £10.54 for the 250ml and 500ml bottles respectively.
