Independents should stock survival packs for customers concerned by the growing threat of terrorism, it was claimed at the ACS Summit.
FWD chairman Francis Ball said terrorism was likely to play a bigger part in people's lives and retailers should be preparing. Survival kits had been a major success in the US through wholesalers such as Costco, he said.
He also challenged suppliers to work closer with wholesalers and independents to deliver better margins. "Wholesalers and retailers need a shared margin of 20% to 30% to stay alive," said Ball. "If they can't get this they will have to find an alternative, such as stocking secondary brands."
