Wal-Mart has cut its December sales forecast despite a last minute surge in Christmas spending. Sales in the US stores accelerated in the four days leading up to Christmas, with two of those days topping $1bn in sales. But same-store sales in the five weeks to January 3, which were forecast to rise between 3% and 5% from last year, and now expected to be up only 2% to 3%, said the Financial Times.
