Beleaguered wholesaler Waverley TBS has lost an account to deliver cask ales to Punch Taverns pubs.

"We have recently transferred a contract to deliver low volumes of cask ale, sold as guest ales and on rotation within our managed estate, to Carlsberg UK," said a spokeswoman for Punch Taverns.

"Carlsberg UK operates an exclusive contract for Punch Taverns across our leased and managed businesses and the move is part of an ongoing process to work with one provider who offers both commercial and service benefits."

The contract loss comes as Waverley consults on making 220 of its employees redundant as part of a proposed restructuring process.

The Heineken-owned wholesaler, which made pre-tax losses of £21m in the year ending December 2008, plans to shut three of its depots and replace a further nine depots with stockless 'transit points'.
