Just one audit Assured British Meat is making progress in its efforts to rationalise quality and safety certification, the latest development being a scheme enabling meat product makers to meet the criteria for ABM, British Meat Manufacturers Association and British Retail Consortium approval with just one audit. ABM claims its overall food safety assurance scheme for the entire meat chain is now in place. Traders are still grumbling about the proliferation of assurance schemes and some producers are resistant, but in general the industry seems genuinely to welcome ABM's unifying influence. Cost and the risk of confusing shoppers are the obvious causes for complaint against the profusion of schemes, but some wholesalers also point to market fragmentation and loss of price transparency as assurance criteria can create artificial product differentiation. {{MEAT }}
