A new generation of electronic shelf-edge labelling is to be trialled in the perishables departments of a major multiple this summer.
The labels, costing £15 each, feature 4.5 inch LCD screens that can be updated at any time of day and carry 12 different images, such as stocking and merchandising advice for shelf stackers, last-minute price changes and advertisements.
Linked up to a store’s central computer system, the labels can receive information from radio frequency waves, infrared or above-aisle fluorescent lights.
The labels will be trialled in Watford or Hatfield
A4-size colour screens could come on stream by 2007.
