Independent retailers are urging government to go further in its response to recommendations by the Better Regulation Task Force. The task force identified in 12 recommendations how the burden of red tape could be reduced for small stores. The government broadly accepts all the recommendations. However the call for a review of business rating systems has been rejected. Ministers say the wheels are already in motion for up to 50% rate relief through the Modernising Local Government Finance green paper. ACS chief executive David Rae said: "If the government is to do all it can to help small stores thrive more action must be taken." {{NEWS }}
