So much for the domestic culinary revolution - research reveals that ready meals still rule in UK homes.

A report from Mintel shows that the UK remains Europe's largest market for ready meals, with sales reaching the £2bn mark, a total that is likely to grow 25% by 2011. Brits are also most likely among European consumers to eat ready meals more than once a week.

"The UK is still king of convenience," said European consumer analyst Michelle Strutton. "The ready meals market here is far and away the most advanced in Europe. Suppliers are quick to react to new consumer trends, offering a wide variety of exciting meals to appeal to everyone's tastes."

However, although once the preserve of couch potatoes, ready meals are now more likely to appeal to health fanatics, with better-for-you lines driving growth.
