This year's Convenience Retailing Show is set to break records according to its organisers.

Andrew Reed, director of William Reed Exhibitions, part of the William Reed group, which publishes The Grocer, said a total of 160 exhibitors including big names such as Unilever and Coca-Cola were at CRS.

A further 90 were at the adjacent International Forecourt and Fuel Equipment Show. No official visitor figures will be available until an ABC audit is completed in a few weeks.

But Reed said: "We have had thousands through the door, it's a fantastic show, I'm really pleased with the way that the convenience sector has supported CRS."

A particularly well received area is the CRS summit, round table discussions on hot topics in the convenience sector, he said.

And William Reed is waiting for a stamp of approval from Guinness world records for the world's largest pre-packed sandwich.

The 2.5m long sandwich was designed to draw attention to how profitable sandwiches can be to small retailers.

The three day Convenience Retailing Show, which started yesterday, is being held at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre.
