A major conference will be held in March to look at ways to rebuild the red meat sector in the wake of foot and mouth. It will unveil the findings of the forum set up in September and chaired by MLCchairman Peter Barr. Three working parties are finalising recommendations: a consumer group, chaired by Safeway director of communications Kevin Hawkins; a benchmarking party, led by Tony Pearce, formerly of Birds Eye Wall's; and a supply chain group, chaired by Steve Ellwood of HSBC. The conference will be at the QEII Conference Centre in Westminster on March 7. Speakers include NFU president Ben Gill. {{NEWS }}
