Mary Portas will invite a host of the country’s top retailers to a working lunch next month.

The retail guru is to call the meeting after she was tasked with breathing life back into the British high street by the coalition government – a role first revealed by The Grocer.

Portas met with Tesco UK chief executive Richard Brasher in one of her first acts in the job, despite having previously been fiercely critical of the supermarket giant.

A spokesman said: “Portas is keen to meet everyone that is involved in the high street – from independent retailers to the chief executives of major companies – to gain input into her review.”
