Retailers are failing to combat shoplifting, a survey by Ernst & Young has revealed.

The survey found that although there is widespread use of CCTV cameras, security tags and visible electronic security barriers, merchandise and signage often blocked the view of security cameras and tall shelving created blind spots in stores.

Tim Sleep, director of retail at Ernst & Young, said: “Despite significant investment in security devices such as cameras, monitors and product tagging, this technology is invariably not being used effectively.”
