Retailers intend to go beyond factory gate pricing and put further upstream initiatives into place, an IGD survey revealed.
The study, presented at IGD's second annual conference on factory gate pricing and open book costing, showed that all the retailers questioned said they would go beyond the focus of reducing distribution costs and look into the costs of packaging or raw materials, for example.
Tesco's primary distribution director John Boulter told the conference that factory gate pricing was a catalyst for change and that "one change opens up opportunities for further change".
